To coincide with the launch of the Government's new Intellectual Rights Property Forum for the creative industries, Creative London is announcing a free copyright and Intellectual Property service to ensure London's creative community actually profits from its innovations. Called "Own It", this service will work with 16 major industry organizations to deliver seminars, online and face-to-face advice to ensure creative professionals understand how to exploit and protect their ideas.
BAFTA Special Award winner and Creative Director at Eidos - one of the world's leading developers and publishers of video games - Ian Livingstone, welcomes the initiative: "People are only just waking up to the value of intellectual property. It's not just about ownership today, it's about future revenues from exploiting and leveraging IP. For example, Eidos owns 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' and, not only do we get all the benefits from publishing the game worldwide, we also receive revenues from merchandise, endorsements and licences, notably the Tomb Raider movie."
