sneak preview of the 1st season

whateverworks is produced in association with Edinburgh Mediabase

celebrate our second year with us as we hold hands, close our eyes  and
gleefully jump into the joyous ocean of short moving image storytelling...

what's this nonsense all about then?

in 2003 whateverworks produced an event called short talks in association
with edinburgh mediabase. short talks was an informal screening of short
films and an interview with the filmmakers. well, we're doing it all again
in 2004 and this time it's personal. we're dropping the title 'short talks'
(because we never really liked it anyway) and we're going monthly.

this year it~s all about developing a short film community in edinburgh.
Yes, it~s still short film screenings and interviews with filmmakers but
more importantly an opportunity to meet other people who want to make short
films.

this is the sketch for the party:

7pm the bar opens
7.30pm sneak preview of the season's films
8.30pm free booze / djs and some talking
10pm dancing

more blurb?

whateverworks exists to provide an informal, free opportunity for budding
short film makers, or those on the periphery of the industry, to see work
and hear from 'real world' filmmakers. the purpose of the event is to
inspire and provide an insight into what can seem like an impenetrable
world.

in 2003 we looked at the work of numerous filmmakers including matt hulse,
angela murray, nigel smith & david cairns, zam salim & vincent hunter and
blunt productions. the format was also adopted for the channel 4
ideasfactory launch.

the values of whateverworks were summed-up at the first event of 2003 by
filmmaker zam salim when he said "don't wait for a scheme. don't wait for a
bursary to go to film school. just beg, borrow and steal the equipment you
need, get out there and make films."

whateverworks also aims to provide a regular networking focus for
edinburgh's filmmakers. often, the hour after the interview & screening is
even more revealing and inspirational than the main event.
