European Federation planned for Game Developers
27 March 2004

Trade bodies APOM (France), Danish Producers, TIGA (UK), and TIGA Netherlands agreed in Paris, to work towards creating a European Federation of Independent Game Developers.

The main objective of the group is to address key industry issues in Brussels with the European Commission. The combined trade bodies represent the majority of developers in their own countries and around 70% of developers in the EU. They will strongly encourage in dependent developers in other member states to join the federation. The group will start work immediately to prepare a delegation to meet Cultural and Trade and Industry commissioners in Brussels.

Said Fred HASSON ‘The ambitions of this group are defined by the EU’s agenda. We propose to inform the European institutions on the importance of independent development in the cultural and business mix of the EUs policies, and to ensure that any advantages accruing to similar industries are also available to independent developers’.

Said Romain POIROT-LELLIG, International Affairs Director of A.P.O.M. ‘Thanks to the efforts of game developers’ representatives, European governments are beginning to have a better understanding of our industry and to take our needs into account. Such efforts must now be united to have an impact on a European level’.

‘As a pan-European organisation, the EDF is best placed to serve the interests of independent developers in Europe by being able to approach the EU government with a united voice’, said Martin de Ronde, spokesperson for TIGA Netherlands. ‘We look forward to welcoming more members in the near future to further strengthen the federation.
