aimhi has been in contact with various broadcast programme
commissioners and they have agreed to attend a Commissioners’ Day in Inverness,
in either June or September, to meet with the content creation industry, explain
the commissioning process and to consider any broadcast programme proposals that
may be submitted.
The plan is not to raise everyone’s expectations - so the focus of the day
will be on providing an insight into the realities of selling ideas to
commissioners in the present television set up, to explain the differences
between regional and network programming, the responsibilities of different
commissioners and a real insight into the process.
Limited places and eligibility
Places will be limited and will be aimed at two specific types of people:
- Those who have broadcast ideas/proposals and who have some real experience
in the creative industries, but possibly not in television.
- Those who have experience in corporate or possibly local/cable
television.
The day is not aimed at those who have already had programmes
commissioned.
Call for registrations
In preparation for this day, we are inviting
you to register your interest in attending and we have provided a simple form
for this purpose, which should be submitted by Friday, 30th April
2004.
To secure a place at the Commissioners’ Day, registrations must be received
by the above date from those eligible. Selections will be made on the basis of
eligibility and on the basis of any ideas or proposals submitted. For an
application form, email aimhimembers@aol.com.
On receipt of your registration, full event details will be sent to you.
Submitting and Pitching Proposals
All proposals submitted will be forwarded to the relevant commissioners and
we hope to select three proposals for a live pitch during the Commissioners’
Day. These three pitches would take place as part of the day’s activities with
other delegates present. It is also hoped that, should there be a winning pitch,
it will be supported by the commissioning organisation for further development
by way of practical support and/or financial assistance.
Proposals should be in the form of a single page synopsis.
The commissioners attending are likely to cover the following programme
types:
Drama – Factual – Entertainment – Children’s
The Day’s Sessions
Who are the commissioners and what do they do.
The real A to Z guide to commissioning, covering both Scotland and the
UK networks.
What the commissioners want - proposals, paragraphs and
ideas - how to pitch.
Live pitching session – 3 to be selected from those
submitted at registration.
