There is an informal session on the 26th May for people to find out more about the GDCN Games Competition. The Competition seeks to provide entrants with the potential to gain international recognition for their creative and technical expression, and to be more aware of the potential of digital creative industries.
The Competition
The title and theme for Competition is "Digital Connection at Play"; this draws on the ideas inherent in the project, being digital connection between people (use of the phrase digital connection), expression of creativity (at play), and the words together indirectly reference the focus of the project being computer and console games.
The Competition provides a solid opportunity to a range of people in Dundee and Gold Coast, Australia to get involved in expressing their creative and technical ideas for game development. While the cities are members of the Global Digital City Network (GDCN), an international community of like minded cities, not all members of the GDCN are participating in this Competition.
Deadline
The deadline for the Competition is 8 September 2005 - for more information, please visit the website below. The culmination of the Competition is a presentation area at the 6th General Assembly of the GDCN in Dubai, anticipated to be held in November 2005.
Who can enter?
The Competition is aimed at students (students do not have to be studying game related courses), and 'gamers' (being people who are keen to express their creative and technical skills). Entries can be form individuals or teams (maximum of 3 people) and there is a special award for teams formed from people from two or more cities.
GDCN
The Global Digital City Network (GDCN) is an international organisation between 'knowledge based' industrial cities. It is designed to encourage the sharing and exchange of information and technologies in the multimedia (and other knowledge based) sectors to promote the competitiveness of its member cities. These are: Dundee; Dubai; Gold Coast; Kakamigahara (Japan); Chunchon (Korea); Jilin, Shenyand, Yanji (China); Taipei (Taiwan) and Nizhny Novgorod (Russia)
