Kirsty Wark, the journalist and BBC broadcaster, launched an initiative earlier this week aimed at developing Scotland's creative industry sector.
Caledonian Creates will offer creative companies expertise in business development and consultancy, as well as developing a programme of networking opportunities and increasing student placements. Developed by the Centre for Creative Industries at Glasgow Caledonian University, the project will see a variety of departments, such as fashion business, international marketing, gaming technology, interior, product and graphic design, working together.
The creative industries centre has already forged links with companies such as Artex-Rawlplug and Curious Oranj, and Bruce Wood, its director, said: "Glasgow Caledonian is a university with a wealth of expertise touching on almost all of the creative sectors identified by the government's department of culture, media and sport.
"Through it we are bringing together all this expertise under one banner, and providing business across Scotland and the UK with access to consultancy, continuous professional development opportunities and knowledge transfer opportunities."
The venture is being opened to businesses with an end-of- year show tonight, featuring student work from a number of the university's creative programmes.
Visitors will be able to see a large number of working products, including pottery handbags, jog-free cameras for action sport filming and a suspended rust-free razor, along with fashion exhibits.
