New Local Talent Emerges
02 January 2006

'The Man who Captured Nessie', the debut documentary of aimhi member Andrew Tullis was screened on Channel4 on the 29th December, 2005. The film won the Ross-shire native a nomination for Best Director in the New Talent category at the 2005 Scottish BAFTA (British Academy of Film & Television Arts) awards.

After attending the aimhi Skillsco workshop on television program commissioning in 2004, Andrew got his industry break when he paired up with Glasgow based production company IWC Media to make a documentary about missing Loch Ness monster hunter, Frank Searle.

'The aimhi Skillsco Commissioners' Day workshop was extremely useful, a real eye-opener in
that it showed exactly what television commissioners wanted, who to approach and how best
to pitch your idea. The commissioners turned out to be completely open to receiving unsolicited ideas, provided you follow their basic guidelines.' said Andrew.

This marks the second consecutive year that a Highlands & Islands based individual is making a showing at the Baftas. In 2004, Cromarty based filmmaker Don Coutts won the Audience Choice award and Sutherland based actress Tilda Swinton notched a win in the Best Actress category.
