Invitation to express an interest
Summary
Visual Arts Sutherland (VASu) is a constituted group of visual artists and craftspeople who live and work in Sutherland. The group was established in 2004 to provide a unified platform for members to exhibit, sell and promote their work. In 2006 the group represented 43 individual members from every area of Sutherland and during the summer we promoted a studio trail and held an exhibition; also members have been active in an education initiative in which artists take projects to primary schools in the area.
In 2007 VASu won an award to develop a virtual facility which would reproduce various aspects of its activities and further promote the artists and their work.
This will be in the form of a web based virtual studio tour, a virtual gallery and an education facility which will allow people of all ages to download arts projects.
The job
We are now looking for creative and dynamic individuals or companies who can work with members of VASu and commissioned photographers and film producers to deliver our project.
There are two distinct areas for development which could be bid for separately or could be taken on as a single contract:
Visual Design: This will define the look of the whole project; this job could be tackled by someone who has a strong visual approach but little technical expertise and who could work closely with a technical developer. Or by someone who is proficient will digital design and can deliver the whole visual package. There will be a flow chart to agree which will define the various pages to design, there will be photo, film and audio content to design into the project and there will be navigation tools and graphics to incorporate.
Technical Design: The second part of the design brief would be awarded to an individual or company who could deliver a highly functional technical package. This would involve delivering VR photography, motion film, audio content, hotspotted mapping, interactive projects and a gallery for displaying and selling artwork through an internet portal. The technical developer will be someone or a company who is responsive to the needs of this project and the sensibilities of visual artists. They will work closely with the project coordinator, the content providers and the visual designer to produce an innovative and bold web based facility which will be well publicised and will be seen as a pioneering application of digital media.
If you would like to receive the full brief and additional information please contact Sam Barlow at the above address by email as soon as possible. The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 4th May 2007.
