First Light Movies
First Light Movies is the UK’s national initiative to provide funding and expertise to young filmmakers for the creation of short films. The organization supports young filmmakers between the ages of 5-18 and distributes funds from the national lottery as well as managing a number of other film funds.

First Light Movies will assist in the funding of film projects that:
- Place young people at the lead in all aspects of the production process
- Live action, animation or creative documentary productions
- Films the make use of digital technology
- Films that explore or develop creativity in young people
Funding Streams Avalaible:
Pilot Award
- Maximum of £4,000
- Up to 80% of total budget
- Recommended funding for organizations new to First Light and/or participatory filmmaking with young people
Studio Award
- Maximum of £25,000
- Up to 60% of total budget
The Big Idea Award
- Up to £1,000 to develop ideas and scripts
In order to be eligible for any of the above funding the group applying must be formally constituted with a dedicated bank account. Preferably with a track record working with young people.
