Inverness Broadcast Commissioners Day, June 21 2004. Participants were given an enlightening insight into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the commissioning process by the program commissioners of networks such as STV, BBC Scotland and Grampian TV. Entry to this Skillsco, aimhi and HIE supported event was through the submission of a 'pitching' proposal for a broadcast slot and the top two proposals in the pitching session won grants for further script development.
Andrew Tullis, one of the participants who went on to make his debut film for Channel4 and won a 2005 BAFTA nomination for Best New Director, said, ‘'The aimhi Skillsco Commissioners' Day workshop was extremely useful, a real eye-opener in that it showed exactly what television commissioners wanted, who to approach and how best to pitch your idea. The commissioners turned out to be completely open to receiving unsolicited ideas, provided you follow their basic guidlines.'

Publishers' Day Event. March 23 2005. The highlight of this event was a live pitching session where the delegates got the chance to pitch their book ideas to an expert panel of publishers and literary agents. The winners received cash awards to further develop their ideas.
Literary agent Mark Staunton who was formerly marketing manager at Canongate when they won the British Publisher of the Year Award in 2002, said, ´This is the first time I have attended an event like this. To have people talking about their book ideas in person to a panel of publishers and agents, that is incredibly brave. And I have been surprised at the overall quality of the ideas I have heard, it is such a pity that we have to choose a winner.´
One participant, author Roger Holmes, received warm interest from 4 London publishers as a result of participating in the workshop, said, ‘My sincere thanks for all you have done. How wonderfully worthwhile! '

This event is structured as a case study session of successful design stories, and an exploration of how Highlands & Islands businesses might integrate design elements to enhance competitiveness.
