So you need some money so that you can make your film, documentary or television program? Well first up Aimhi does not proved grants or loans, we simply don't have the cash. However, we do now of a few organisation of there that do, so this page is intended as a sign post to them. If you happen to know of an organisation what provides grants or other assistance to filmmakers that we don't have listed here then please get in touch and let us know.

First Light Movies

First Light Movies is the UK’s national initiative to provide funding and expertise to young filmmakers for the creation of short films. The organization supports young filmmakers between the ages of 5-18 and distributes funds from the national lottery as well as managing a number of other film funds.

Pilot Award
Maximum of £4,000
Up to 80% of total budget
Recommended funding for organizations new to First Light and/or participatory filmmaking with young people

Studio Award
Maximum of £25,000
Up to 60% of total budget

The Big Idea Award
Up to £1,000 to develop ideas and scripts

In order to be eligible for any of the above funding the group applying must be formally constituted with a dedicated bank account. Preferably with a track record working with young people.

Scottish Screen

Scottish Screen invests more than £6m in the development and promotion of Scotland's screen industries each year. This includes distributing £2.7m of National Lottery funds. We invest in a range of initiatives, projects and activities designed to develop talent, audiences and businesses across the country.

Skillset Scotland

Company Development and Freelance Training Bursary Funding Programmes.

The Skillset Scotland Training Fund is aiming to invest up to £90,000 developing skills in Scotland’s screen businesses over the course of 2007/8. In addition we aim to invest up to £80,000 in training bursaries for freelancers and sole traders. The Funding Programmes outline the Funds’ priorities for 2007, provide funding deadlines, and give advice on applications. The first deadline for Company Development – Training and Development in 2007 is 12pm on Monday 18 June, 2007.

To date, this new fund has enabled 22 training bursaries totalling £23,500 to be awarded to freelance industry practitioners. Additionally, one company was successful in its bid for support to develop a bespoke HR and training plan, receiving an award of £10,000. We are currently in negotiations with 5 training providers to offer CPD training in Scotland in 2007.
